WINTER GUIDED DAY TRIP – SNOWSHOE/BACKCOUNTRY SKI OR SPLITBOARD
No experience beyond the resort? Want to give Backcountry terrain a go for the very first time? Excited to experience real, untouched alpine snow with a qualified guide who has your safety as top priority? We do all of the above!
flexible snow experiences for all skill levels
Join one of our internationally qualified guides for a day of guided ski touring, split-boarding or snow-shoeing in the heart of the Victorian Alps. We can offer tours for you and your group in the Mt Hotham, and Falls Creek areas, including the crown jewels Mount Bogong and Mount Feathertop. Talk to us and we can formulate a trip that matches your learning journey, your fitness, and your riding abilities.
This is a perfect opportunity for those looking to mix it up after a day of skiing at the resort, or for those who want to maximise their learning opportunity with a dedicated guide in some of the most interesting ski terrain in Australia. There is likely some capacity for us to be a little flexible with you on trip dates and try to get the best weather and snow conditions during your stay in the area.
Group Guiding Trip
For a group trip, we set the dates and locations ahead of time and offer them up for anyone to join. They are charged on a per-participant basis and each trip is subject to minimum signups.
Private guide trip
Private guiding could also be called “BYO Group”. You contact us to request a date and a location for your trip, and we charge you for the cost of the guide on that day. These trips are not advertised so it is “private” to your group only.
Sample Itinerary
Mt Hotham/Falls Creek Side-country
- Meet in the morning near the trailhead in the resort (No lift tickets required, but a parking permit is required).
- Tour out of the resort with our skis/boards/snowshoes on, and spend a day of guided exploration (and riding) amongst the snowgums in a beautiful location.
- Stop for lunch somewhere nice!
- Continue our trip until the afternoon, aiming to be back at the car by around 4pm.
Mt Feathertop/Mt Bogong
- Meet early in the morning before sunrise near the trailhead and discuss the plan for the day and conduct a final gear check.
- Hike with our skis/boards/snowshoes on our backpacks, using our head-torches in the dark, observing a beautiful sunrise until we reach the snow-line.
- Reach the snow-line, skis/split-boards/snowshoes on and walk uphill to our objectives, and enjoy a day of guided exploration (and riding) in a special and remote location.
- Stop for lunch somewhere nice!
- Continue riding/walking until it’s time to come back down.
- Head down to the snow-line, stick our skis/boards/snowshoes on our backpacks, don our head-torches and enjoy a walk down into the forest back to the car during the sunset.
The trips to Feathertop and Bogong work best for those who can comfortably ascend at least 1000m in a day with a daypack. Mount Feathertop especially involves significant uphill to reach the goods, but it’s also correspondingly one of the coolest places to go, you can observe the steep and iconic South side of Mount Feathertop from Mount Hotham ski resort. Those on skis/boards need to be able to safely ride a black run in the resort. The Hotham/Falls Creek side-country is a better alternative option if we’re not sure about group fitness and abilities.
