The course combined both closed indoor theory and demonstration and hands-on practice on the mountain. Hamid was great, ensuring all participants operated safety and made on-the-go decisions considering the weather, environment and skill level of each student.

MEET HAMID, our snow lead
Hamid Shafaghi is one of a small number of IFMGA-certified mountain and ski guides in Australia. The IFMGA is the highest internationally recognised qualification in mountain guiding – covering both alpine mountaineering and ski guiding – and it’s held by very few active guides (less than 5 as far as we’re aware!) in this country.
Over two decades Hamid has accumulated technical climbing and guiding experience across four continents, developing new routes on ice and rock from the Karakoram to the Australian Alps. He brings that depth of experience to every program The Climbing Company runs on snow and rock.
Alongside Hamid, our snow team includes NZMGA-qualified ski guides, a qualification that places our instructors well above industry standard in Australia, alongside APSI qualified ski instructors and local guides.
When you’re heading into alpine terrain or backcountry, the qualifications behind your guide matter. Ours are among the strongest in the country.
