Pauly was a fantastic instructor — incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, patient and supportive. I really liked the way he taught us. He would clearly explain and demonstrate each skill first, then give us plenty of opportunity to practise it ourselves while guiding us and correcting us along the way. He made everything easy to understand and created a really comfortable environment where you could ask questions, have a go and keep practising.
The course was very hands-on, which I really enjoyed. Being completely new to these skills, I walked away with so much more knowledge, practical experience and far more confidence than I walked in with. I never felt intimidated or out of place while learning.
We also had an amazing group, which made the experience even better. Everyone was friendly, supportive and encouraging, and there were plenty of laughs while learning together.
A huge thank you to Pauly for such a great introduction to alpine skills and for making the whole experience so enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend Alpine 1 with The Climbing Company to anyone wanting to learn and build their confidence in the mountains. 🏔️❄️
It was an incredible privilege to learn from a guiding company with serious history and, to hear that they have been active in the involvement with the positive resolution of Mt Arapiles future climbing with respect to the First Nations communities’ cultural heritage.
I couldn’t recommend The Climbing Company enough for anyone wanting to learn or wanting a refresher in the world of Trad Climbing. We are already planning our trip back to Mt Arapiles, and keen on reading into the Big Wall course also offered.
The progression of the course was really well structured. We started with the more basic belay devices and techniques to make sure we properly understood the fundamentals, then worked our way up to assisted-braking devices like the GriGri. We covered a lot over the two days without ever feeling rushed.
I came away feeling much more confident with lead climbing and belaying. Highly recommend the course and Aaron as an instructor!

Not at all.
If you’ve never climbed before, your guide will start from scratch and build your confidence from the ground up.
If you’re a gym climber making the move outdoors, they’ll bridge that gap and get you comfortable on real rock.
And if you’re already climbing outside, they’ll work with where you’re at and push you in the right direction.
It’s actually one of the best ways to introduce kids to climbing.
With a guide entirely focused on your group, younger participants get the attention, encouragement, and patience they need to thrive.
No waiting around, no keeping up with strangers, just a great day out tailored entirely to your family.
Adventure Tours are shared group days focused on Abseiling and Top Rope climbing and are a great way to meet other climbers and have a fun day out with people you haven’t met yet.
Private guiding is exclusively yours. Your guide, your location, your objectives, and the flexibility to change it all up on the day based on how you’re feeling and how the conditions are playing out. It’s a fundamentally different experience.
That’s completely normal and something our guides handle well.
Route selection and activities are matched to the group, so everyone stays engaged and challenged at the right level. Nobody gets left behind and nobody gets bored.
Safety comes first, always.
If conditions aren’t suitable your guide will make the call and we’ll work out the best path forward, whether that’s an alternate location, a different activity, or rescheduling entirely. You’ll always be looked after.
