Single Pitch Trad
This is a two-day course designed to teach existing lead climbers how to use trad gear safely and effectively. We practice placing nuts, cams and other equipment to secure our system to the rock.

What is Trad Climbing?
In sport climbing areas the rock has been pre-prepared with fixed metal bolts and rings drilled and glued in place permanently. But in trad climbing areas there are no such permanent placements – instead the rock usually has natural features – cracks, holes, gaps and protrusions – that not only serve as hand and/or foot-holds, but can serve as handy places to put temporary protection such as cams, nuts, hexes and slings.
This is the essence of trad climbing – placing temporary hardware on your way up the rock, that you can clip the rope to to stay attached and safe.
Is it scary?
Trad climbing can seem like a scary concept to most people, and learning to place the gear well is an art – but with the right mentor and adequate practice you will not find that it is not nearly as daunting as it appears.
Additionally the rope skills needed to effectively manage the session are much more complicated than in sport climbing, but again a structured course will teach you this.
Once those two small hurdles are overcome, you will discover an all new amazing and incredibly rewarding aspect of climbing that you never knew existed!

I completed the Alpine Skills Course 1 and 2 with The Climbing Company. I wanted to do these courses to build confidence with alpine climbing equipment (crampons, ropes, ice axes, harnesses, belay devices etc.) before going to climb Mera Peak in Nepal.
Hamid was our instructor for both courses and he had an incredible in his teaching style – the right amount of information and theory mixed in with practical application and loads of fun. I had no knowledge about how to climb in Alpine environments prior to these courses. These courses have provided me with essential skills and knowledge to feel more confident going to Mera Peak.

Had a spectacular backcountry weekend hosted by The Climbing Company, Mountain Safety Collective (MSC) and sponsored by Arc’teryx. Hamid, Simon (wombat), Luke and Dill were brilliant hosts, providing a safe and well planned experience. Such a great opportunity to experience the Victorian backcountry with a team of professionals. Roll on the next trip!
We had a wonderful weekend with the guys from The Climbing Company backcountry skiing and snow camping in the spectacular Victorian Alps. The team organised and coordinated a fantastic set of experiences for us all. Our tents were comfortable and cozy, the dining tent (Tipi) was extraordinary, with a wood burner and Wombat cooked us some delicious and nourishing food. Highly recommended for first timers and experienced skiers who want a unique experience in Australian mountains.
