new to Alpine Terrain?
Start building real winter skills in real terrain.

If you’re curious about alpine environments but unsure where to begin, you’re in the right place.
Winter terrain is different. Snow changes how you move, how you plan, and how you manage risk. But getting started does not require mountaineering experience, it requires the right foundations.
You might be thinking:
“I’ve hiked before, but never in snow.”
“I’ve been to a resort before, but a long time ago.”
“I’m not sure what alpine terrain actually involves.”
“Winter mountains feel serious.”
That’s fair. Alpine terrain requires different systems, different planning, and a different pace. But with structured instruction, it becomes far more manageable than most people expect.
You do not need to be elite or extreme, or head over to New Zealand to start learning alpine travel.
Once those foundations are in place, winter landscapes become far less intimidating and far more enjoyable.
Your First Step:
join an alpine 1 course
Designed especially for people stepping into alpine environments for the first time and wanting to do it properly.
Alpine 1 allows you to:
- Move safely and efficiently on snow using proper travel techniques
- Understand self-arrest skills in multiple positions
- Build and assess basic snow anchors and belay systems
- Develop foundational ropework for alpine terrain
- Learn structured risk assessment, including terrain, weather, and group decision-making
You will cover practical systems such as step-kicking, rest-step efficiency, ice axe techniques, snow anchor construction, belaying on snow, and essential knots and ropework.

Qualified, Experienced guides
Led by experienced alpine instructors who understand winter terrain and how to teach it properly.

small group sizes
Low participant-to-guide ratios so you have space to ask questions, practise systems, and move at a steady pace.

Clear Systems, Taught Properly
Learn movement on snow, terrain awareness, and decision-making in a structured, logical way.

Practical, Hands-On Learning
Apply everything in real snow conditions, building confidence through doing, not just listening.
Not ready for the technical side yet?
Start with a guided snowshoe day. Spend time in the mountains, build comfort in snow, and get a feel for alpine terrain at a steady pace.
Thanks for a great weekend. Highly recommended.
The course combined both closed indoor theory and demonstration and hands-on practice on the mountain. Hamid was great, ensuring all participants operated safety and made on-the-go decisions considering the weather, environment and skill level of each student.

what’s next
Once your winter foundations feel solid, your next steps depend on what kind of alpine experience you’re aiming for.
