Indoor Climbing Instructor Assessment
A qualified Indoor Climbing Instructor (ICI) can instruct, teach and supervise people developing independent skills on indoor/artificial walls, including teaching lead climbing and associated skills.
Assessment Course
To be issued a qualification as an ACIA Indoor Climbing Instructor, completion of the following is required:
- Completion of the training course (or exemption from training granted)
- Logged experience showing at least 5 days (equivalent) teaching/supervising lead climbing (assisting / co-instructing)
- Logged experience, personal climbing, minimum 50 routes led (and 50 routes belaying a lead climber), variety of venues.
- Successful completion of the 1-day practical assessment course – competence with all aspects of the syllabus and all prerequisites is required, assessment to involve instruction to model clients (real climbers at appropriate skill level)
- Successful completion of theory tasks (creation of session plan for practical teaching day)
- Current first aid qualification
Our group spent the weekend with Aaron learning Anchoring, abseiling, and top roping skills. His teaching methods were very clear and understandable. He was calm, professional, and reassuring, which is what I personally needed due to my fears of risk and heights. By the end of the course I was able to confidently place an anchoring system that I was confident in and took away the skills that would allow me to do it outside of the class environment.
Had Aaron teach me and three others over two days. Very informative and answers any questions you have with climbing with confidence. Over all great person and teacher
I had such a great time doing the Indoor Learn-to-Lead course with Aaron. Felt good to actually gain a concept of safety and awareness before heading outdoors.

Booked a private full day, absolutely blessed with a sunny day during winter and headed to Werribee Gorge. My partner and I are absolute begginers and we had an absolute blast! Jacky our instructor was extremely insightful, lead with clear easy to follow instructions that helped us be safe and enjoy ourselves. Couldn’t recommend booking this enough, also Jacky 🙌🏻
We had a great time over the weekend doing the custom 3 day sports climbing course with Hamid. He was a great instructor with a wealth of experience. Overall I would highly recommend doing the course if you want to get into sports climbing.
Hamid is a great instrcutor! We did a 3 day sports climbing course and learnt alot. Hamid has lots of experience and is very knowledgeable in all things ropes and mountains. We look forward to the next one wherever that may be.
We did an indoor learn-to-lead course with Aaron over two evenings. Had such a great experience! Aaron is a wonderful, down-to-earth teacher who really helped to build up our confidence, knowledge & skills.
Haven’t done anything this exhilarating in a long time! Our guide Aaron looked after us perfectly all day while also challenging us to push our limits. I booked a day of private guiding for myself and my two children, aged 8 and 10, and Aaron made the day exciting and fun. A wonderful gift to give your children – something they will always remember.
