Multi Pitch Guide Training

Participants on MPG courses must have progressed through the previous levels, they need to be personally experienced and competent at leading multi pitch routes on leader placed protection. The MPG qualification covers the skills required to lead participants in multi pitch climbing / abseil environments, including guiding participants on multi pitch routes whilst leading on placed protection.

Entry requirements:

Must have completed the single pitch guide (SPG) training course, or gained an exemption from this training from the ACIA. Details and instructions for gaining an exemption are via the “Recognition of Prior Learning” process available on the ACIA website’s Resources page, which also contains the Application Form. Candidates do not need to have completed the single pitch guide assessment.
It is expected that candidates will have strong multi-pitch climbing experience (typically to grade 14).

Course content:

Over the three days the course will build on the skills gained in the single-pitch guide course and give instruction and practice in various techniques specific to multi-pitch guiding, including:
• Efficient multi-pitch belay set ups.
• Methods for conducting students safely and efficiently on multi-pitch climbs.
• Self rescue techniques and emergency situations relating to multi-pitch climbing.

Multi Pitch Guide Interim Training Requirements:

1. Forty (40) multi pitch climbs at a variety of locations 20 of which are at or above grade 14.
2. Four days of observation/work experience. At least 1 of these days must be a practicum day under the guidance of a qualified MP guide – ACIA preferred. More details are provided during the MPG training.

The Top Rope Anchors and Abseiling course offered great enjoyment especially with Aaron as our guide. Aaron provided clear information on the different types of equipment and how it should be suitably set-up. I highly recommend the climbing company to individuals seeking to start rock climbing and abseiling or who wish to refresh skills and techniques.

Our group spent the weekend with Aaron learning Anchoring, abseiling, and top roping skills. His teaching methods were very clear and understandable. He was calm, professional, and reassuring, which is what I personally needed due to my fears of risk and heights. By the end of the course I was able to confidently place an anchoring system that I was confident in and took away the skills that would allow me to do it outside of the class environment.

I hired Hamid for a full day of private climbing tuition in the Cathedrals and we had the best day. Hamid knew exactly what I wanted in preparation for Nepal and he very efficiently set up some climbing courses on the steep rock. He stepped me through at the beginning and offered a nice balance of freedom toward the end. His explanations were clear and helpful (even when I became a little frustrated with some of my knots.) The training was perfect for me and Hamid was fabulous.

This was a good course! Aaron was patient and very knowledgeable about all things climbing. I feel better prepared for my lead test. I would recommend this course if you have done some top roping indoor and outside and want to push to next level.

Having just completed the indoor lead course with Aaron, I cannot recommend these folks enough.
Personally, coming from a background of strong climbing skills but weak technical knowledge, this course provided the perfect introduction to the basics of indoor lead climbing.
The combination of laid-back energy and just the right amount of theory and practice enabled the group to confidently progress through the course.
This was the perfect first step, and I now feel enabled to continue my climbing journey.
